Product

  • Maple syrup mainly contains sucrose (natural table sugar), which is broken down into glucose and fructose in the body.

Maltodextrin is a complex carbohydrate derived from plant starch and is rapidly broken down into glucose in the digestive tract. Together with maple syrup, they allow for higher carbohydrate intake.

Sea salt compensates for electrolyte loss through sweating and supports muscle contraction. It also acts as a "carrier" and ensures that fluids and carbohydrates are absorbed more quickly into the bloodstream. We opted for a relatively high salt content of 208 mg per serving to give you the opportunity to replenish your stores during high exertion.

  • We opted for natural ingredients because your body already recognizes them. They are easier to digest, put less strain on the body, and reduce the risk of intolerances. This makes a difference, especially under stress when digestion is already less efficient.

  • Sucrose is regular sugar and is found in maple syrup. It consists of two types of sugar: glucose and fructose.

The trick: both are absorbed differently. Glucose goes directly into the bloodstream and provides immediate energy. Fructose takes a detour via the liver where it is first processed. Because both take different paths, they do not block each other, and your body can therefore absorb more carbohydrates at once. The optimized ratio of 1:0.8 ensures that this works smoothly and that the stomach remains calm.

  • The 1:0.8 glucose to fructose ratio is crucial. Both types of sugar use different transport pathways in the intestine. This means not only can more carbohydrates be absorbed per hour, but it is also gentler on the digestive tract.

  • Glucose and fructose use different transport pathways in the intestine and work simultaneously. The 1:0.8 ratio is chosen so that both transporters are optimally utilized, allowing an absorption of up to 90g CHO/h instead of only 60g with pure glucose.

  • There are different approaches regarding the number of carbs. We have developed a gel that hits the sweet spot with 25g of carbohydrates per serving: enough to specifically replenish glycogen stores, but not so much that it burdens the stomach. Most studies show that the body can optimally process 30-60g of carbohydrates per hour at moderate intensity. With two gels per hour, you are right in this range.

Application

  • That depends on your exercise intensity and duration. As a guide: for moderate endurance exercise, the ACSM recommends 30–60g of carbohydrates per hour, and up to 90g for long ultra-endurance events. A CHASE Gel provides 25g. This means 1–2 gels per hour are optimal for most athletes. Start with one gel every 30 minutes and adjust as needed.

  • Your stomach reacts differently in competitive situations than at rest. During intense exertion, the body prioritizes supplying blood to the working muscles. As a result, the gastrointestinal tract is temporarily less supplied with blood and can react more sensitively. That's why it's important to find out what you can tolerate, what tastes good to you – and to train your gut to be able to absorb the fast carbs at all.

  • With intensive endurance exercise in the anaerobic threshold range, fully topped-up glycogen stores last for approximately 75–90 minutes. However, the longer and more intense the session, the more important regular fueling becomes. If the stores are not full beforehand, the possible duration of exertion is correspondingly shorter – preloading is important! Gels are a convenient and fast source of carbohydrates, requiring less digestion than bars.

  • Absolutely. Chase gels are not just for professionals. If you run, cycle, or do longer workouts regularly, you will benefit just as much. We built Chase specifically for those who take their sport seriously and love it, without having to be a professional.

  • Yes, it is even recommended. Taken shortly before training as "preloading", you can specifically replenish your glycogen stores before the exertion begins.

The advantage: You start the session with full stores instead of already running on empty for the first few kilometers. Especially after a long day at work, when you haven't eaten much, this can make the difference between a good session and a tough one.

  • Basically yes, but your body will give you a clear signal before it becomes a problem. Too many carbohydrates at once can strain your stomach and lead to discomfort or pressure in the stomach. As a guide: Your body generally cannot efficiently absorb more than 90g of carbs per hour.
